Wedding Music Tips for Your Wedding

So when your vows have been exchanged it’s time to head off to your reception and party like you’ve never partied before, after all, it is your wedding. If you are thinking of having live music playing at your reception, then there are plenty of live bands for hire out there plus the wedding  DJ’s and wedding singers. But first, please check with the venue where you’re going to have your reception, to see what type of live music they allow. Some venues may have restrictions when it comes to live music. One restriction would be a sound limiter in place. A sound limiter is an electrical device that measures the amount of volume in a room. If that volume reaches a certain level the sound limiter will cut the electric supply to the stage. This would ruin any live music you have in place.

The type of music that you choose to play at your wedding should be an expression of the overall theme of your wedding.

It’s very important to select the right music throughout the wedding, and right down to the reception. Music creates the atmosphere and it will set the mood for your wedding.

Hire a DJ

For the reception, the bride and groom have a choice of a DJ or live music in the form of a band or a singer. The best thing about a DJ is you can request to have all of your favourite tunes on his playlist. There are many top-quality DJs that are available to play for wedding receptions. You could always check out Music8 Agency. Once you’ve settled on a DJ, have a one-on-one with them to discuss the type of entertainment and mood you want to have during the reception.

A Formal Wedding

For more formal weddings, classical groups, pianists, and instrumentalists are more appropriate. A string quartet is a wonderful choice if you are getting married in a church. It would be a good idea to take into account your guests and choose something that would be suitable for everyone. They not only play classical music they will also perform more modern tunes which may be more suitable for your guests.

Wedding Singers

You could choose a solo singer for your wedding that would perform your special song for your first dance and bring a magical moment and one you will never forget. There are many different solo wedding singers to choose from including an acoustic guitarist that could perform in the afternoon with a more chilled set of music and in the evening with a more upbeat set including your favourite tunes to dance to. Popular choices are wedding singers that perform along to high-quality backing tracks and they will have a limitless amount of songs to perform too. You could go from a Rat Pack style singer to a surprise singing waiter, the choice is endless.

Hire a Live Band

If you want to have a fantastic and exciting time at the reception, then hiring a band is possibly the best way to go! The sheer energy of a live band would get everyone going.

Before hiring a band check out their live videos and song repertoire and make sure it suits your style of wedding. It’s best to hire a band that has had previous experience with wedding receptions and Music8 would be the perfect choice to find your ideal band. You always want to keep the music going and a professional band will always have music playing in-between their live sets.

Roaming bands

If you are having an outside wedding in a tipi for instance then you could consider choosing a roaming band. This type of band will mingle amongst your guests and will keep everyone entertained while having drinks.

Vintage Bands

Another choice could be a vintage style band, these come in many styles like a vintage jazz band for your wedding would open up a wealth of possibilities. Vintage bands cover anything from the Roaring 1920s to the 1960s and the scope of themes you can pick from in that range is some of the classiest and easiest to organise out there. You could go for Gatsby glam style to rock and roll.

In conclusion

There is a lot to think about when it comes to choosing your music style you would like at your wedding whether you choose a DJ or wedding singer or a live wedding band. Take your time and make sure you book early to avoid and disappointment.

Acoustic Bands

Acoustic Bands

Acoustic bands are an ideal choice for a vast array of events from intimate garden parties, wedding receptions, and larger corporate events.

What is an Acoustic band?

An acoustic band can vary in size but acoustic duos are very popular and mainly consist of a vocalist and an acoustic guitar.

An acoustic trio could be the same as a duo plus a Cajon. (Is a box-like instrument for percussion)

There can be larger acoustic bands 4 and 5 piece such as Mumford style folk bands would include acoustic guitars and upright bass and are ideal for festival style weddings.

Also, you could choose roaming bands these are usually acoustic bands mingling with guests at outdoor events and perform unamplified, so no need for set up times. A Mexican mariachi band would be an example of this style of a band which would consist of 2 x acoustic guitars and a trumpet.

Do they need amplification?

Acoustic bands are ideal for venues that have sound limiters in place and bands can only perform at a certain level in some cases with no amplification at all. Always check your venue for this before booking an event.

How much space do they need?

For an acoustic duo the rule of thumb is generally 3x2 meters and 4x3m for a four-piece band.

How much do they cost?

Prices do vary on each type of event but for an acoustic duo they would start from around £450 and four and five-piece Mumford style bands around £1500.

Wrapping it up

These are just a few possibilities for an acoustic band. If you are looking for something a little more intimate you can always hire a solo acoustic singer which is perfect for restaurant drinks receptions.

Band hire for weddings

Why Your Wedding Needs a Live Band or Singer

Weddings are undeniably the best social occasion. Celebrating love, family, friends, and for the religious amongst you, God. As the evening rolls on, the celebration kicks into gear, and guests embrace the happy couple, but the atmosphere, the mood of the entire evening is nothing without music. Music is to a wedding reception; what icing is to cake.
While many people opt for a DJ to play their favourite tunes, it can never compete with the power of a live band or wedding singer. Here’s why!
The Electric Atmosphere
No one raves about hearing a recording of their favourite song. But a live concert has an atmosphere, unlike any other. That's why you need to hire a band. The strum of the guitar, the dazzling vocals and your guests singing along. There is no competition. With a live band, the air is electric. Excitement runs through the crowd. Everyone from grandmas to old friends, husbands and wives, children and teenagers will head down to the dancefloor for a live band; as they respond to the feel of the crowd, to the mood in the room.

The Personal Touch
DJ's can be great, but in the age of the iPod the novelty has worn off. You can listen to the same songs anytime, anywhere. With a live band, you're experiencing a one-off. A unique experience, unlike any other night – isn't that why we love live music. A recording is a poor substitute.
Additionally, when you hire a band, you don’t have to restrict yourself to pop or rock. You can give the night a truly personal touch. Ceilidh bands, Mariachi bands, folk rock bands; you can even hire a classical quartet. You’ll be able to meet the wedding signers beforehand and discuss tracks, mood, and the feel of the night. Plus, with their years of experience, they’ll know just what you’re after.

The First Dance
Many weddings embrace the tradition of a first dance. The couple takes the stage and leads the crowd in the first song, their song. As the music dies, their friends and family join them, and the party starts. But for that moment: it's them and the music. With a band, the romance runs high. The music feels real. It's not just a first dance; it's a serenade.

The Night to Remember
Live music, unlike a DJ, is like love, unpredictable – in a good way. Songs will be suggested. The band will banter with your guests. As the crowd rises, the music will too. People will experience music they’ve never heard before. With a live band, you get something unconventional: custom-made. You can pick the songs, choose the mood. If you want a part of the ceremony or evening to be highlighted, that is entirely possible. If you want, you can try something no one has done before.
Put simply; you can create a night to remember; your night!

Why you should hire a vintage band

Why you should hire a vintage band

Let’s get one thing straight: everyone loves live music. From ballroom orchestras to folk groups, live music has all the essential ingredients to make your event sparkle.
But there are few live music bands out there that can bring the glamour, the energy, the class and the elegance that a vintage band can. There really is no competition for a vintage act that can call on swing, big band, bebop, rock n’ roll, jive and more to get feet on the dance floor.
In this blog post, we’re going to tighten our bow ties, slip on our blue suede shoes and dive into the music of yesteryear to find out why vintage bands are the live act you should hire for a wedding, corporate get-together or family event.

Music that stands the test of time
There is a reason the music that vintage bands play has stayed popular through the years and that’s because the tunes are just as good now as they were way back when. Vintage speakeasy music like jazz and rock n’ roll offers up the perfect mix of rip-roaring swinging bops and slow, soulful ballads, that constantly keep your guests on their toes, both figuratively and literally. One minute, you’ll be doing the hand jive to a high-speed rockabilly, the next minute you’ll have couples melting together with a heart-wrenching tear-jerker. It’s all there and the best vintage bands are the ones who know how best to mix songs from all genres that fall under the vintage banner.

Bands to fit the best party themes
Hiring yourself a vintage jazz band for your event opens a wealth of possibilities for how you want to plan your event, what theme you want to go for and what dress code you have in mind. Vintage bands cover anything from the 1920s to the 1960s and the scope of themes you can pick from in that range are some of the classiest and easiest to organise out there. You could go for the Gatsby glam with measured bowties, flapper headbands and evening dresses. You could hit the rock n’ roll scene with leather jackets, poodle skirts and blue jeans. You could even hit up the forties with soldier uniforms and flowery shirt dresses. Vintage party bands can change their music and how they look to best fit your theme, so they’re the perfect choice for a themed get together.

Players that make a complete vintage package
One of the great things about vintage bands is that they go that extra mile to inhabit the role of the vintage musicians they aspire to be. They’ll don the appropriate outfit for their music output, they’ll play the same instruments that their predecessors originally played, like double-basses and muted trumpets, and they’ll adopt the same stage patter that wouldn’t have been out of place in the vintage eras. In short, they’ll walk, talk, look and sound just like the real thing. You aren’t just hiring a musical act, you’re hiring a full-on performance piece. For an immersive and memorable entertainment package for your event, vintage bands have got you covered.

Setlists that have something for everyone
It doesn’t matter how old you are, where you come from, what your background is, chances are, you’ll love a vintage band. Their music has some of the broadest appeal out there and more often than note, they’ll have tunes that almost everyone has heard before and can appreciate and enjoy. Tunes like Johnny B. Good, In The Mood and Fly Me To The Moon have the kind of broad appeal that you just can’t find anywhere else. And if you’re looking to cater to a younger crowd, certain vintage bands will happily play uproarious covers of current chart hits - all you have to do is ask. For music that hits the spot every time, go with a vintage band.
