What to look for in a function band

Are you looking for live bands for hire? Then the most popular form of bands for weddings and parties are function bands.

A function band may also be classified as a covers band as all of the songs they perform are cover songs. This means they are songs that other artists have in the past made and that the general public recognise them.

·         They will often play various genres of music like soul, funk, pop, rock, and so on, all the songs that have been made popular by the well-known bands and artists that have been in the top 40.

·         There is a vast choice of party bands for hire so here is a few points to take into account when booking your function band for an event.

·         All function bands should have public liability insurance and all their equipment should be PAT tested. (Portable appliance testing)

·         Their set lengths should be 2 x 60 mins or 3 x 40 mins anything longer would be a bonus.

·         All bands should provide a PA system (public address) including speakers and amps etc.

·         They may ask for a rider/ryder which is a supply of drinks and possibly some food included with the gig.

·         Check the allotted space for the band at the venue, for example, a 6 piece would require 5 x 3metres approx. and make sure there is power available close by.

·         Also, check the venue for a sound limiter as this may not be suitable for a band to perform at.

·         If you are hiring a band for a wedding check they can learn your first dance song.

·         Check their promo videos and set lists and read reviews from previous clients.

·         Nearly all bands will provide a DJ service of sought in between and after their last set.

·         Finally to hire a band book early to avoid any disappointment of not having the band you like available for your event.
